JAPA FALLOUT. In extreme cold.
The Belgian government has expressed concern over the high number of prostitutes in the country, particularly from Nigeria, many of whom are found sleeping in harsh conditions alongside other illegal migrants. Mr. Freddy Roosemont, the Director General of the Office of Foreigners in Belgium, revealed this during a recent press conference in Abuja.
Roosemont urged the media to play a role in educating
Nigerian youth about the risks associated with attempting to migrate to Europe,
commonly referred to as "JAPA." He cautioned against falling for the
promises made by human traffickers who lure individuals with the prospect of
employment in Europe, emphasizing that such dreams are unrealistic and
dangerous.
The official emphasized the challenges faced by
migrants in Europe, noting that the economic downturn is a global issue. He
highlighted that the number of asylum seekers in Belgium has risen to 150, and
he discouraged prospective irregular migrants from pursuing their dreams in
Europe, as the reality is far from the promised golden fleece.
Roosemont dispelled the notion that survival in Europe
is easy without a decent job, and he stressed that the dreams of a better life
are often deceptive. He warned against seeking asylum in Belgium, emphasizing
the low chances of obtaining a resident permit. He revealed the harsh
conditions faced by asylum seekers in Brussels, where many are forced to live
on the streets, battling extremely cold temperatures without sufficient
assistance.
